LED Lighting for Commercial Use to Debut at West Coast Green Conference
Santa Rosa, CA (PRWEB) October 2, 2009 -- A major innovation in commercial grade lighting will officially debut this week during the West Coast Green Conference at Fort Mason in San Francisco. Green Ray Corporation, a Santa Rosa, CA based manufacturer of LED lighting products, now offers commercial grade, full spectrum, lamps that are up to 80 percent more efficient than its fluorescent predecessors.
"LED lamps are a major break through for energy efficiency, representing the biggest, simplest and least costly opportunity to reduce energy use. They're so efficient, that they pay for themselves in just 6 to 24 months," said Fernando Cancela, CEO for Green Ray Corporation. "For some time now our world has been eagerly waiting for LED lighting to be ready for commercial use. Green Ray Corporation is very excited to be among the first in California to fill a much needed gap in affordable, energy efficient lighting retrofits."
LED technology has been around for about 40 years in various forms such as bike lights, head lamps and remote controls, but Green Ray is one of the first companies to produce bright, full spectrum products that fit into virtually every existing fluorescent light fixture. "Now, saving huge amounts of energy is finally as easy as changing a light bulb," said Gene Quisisem, Green Ray's Western Regional Director.
Unlike fluorescent lights, Green Ray's lights start instantly, emit no UV, do not flicker or buzz and last up to 50,000 hours. Sustainably built, they are also recyclable and contain no toxic mercury.
"We are redefining the concept of how much light costs. Especially in hard economic times, consumers tend to focus on how much they pay for a light bulb when they should be factoring in the cost of energy, maintenance and the environment", said Quisisem. "LED technology will become a catalyst for 'lamp economy™'. Virtually every business or government agency, small or large can take advantage of this revolution."
In Santa Rosa, where Green Ray is located, businesses are ready for wide spread energy retrofits. Sonoma County has the most aggressive climate action in the nation thanks to their 2005 goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to 25 percent below 1990 levels by 2015. Last year, the climate action team announced their aggressive plan to achieve the goal. Of four major categories, retrofitting 80 percent of all buildings in the county is top priority. The passing of Assembly Bill AB811 also makes Sonoma County ready for such technology. Sonoma is California's first county in the nation to establish a major county-wide energy efficiency financing program.
"LED lighting for commercial use is the best and easiest way businesses can invest money towards energy efficiency. With our new products, it's now possible for every business in Sonoma County to obtain cost and energy savings," said Cancela.
In the future, Green Ray Corporation intends to bring their product's assembly to the United States, making Sonoma County a hub for sustainability and innovation. Until then, Green Ray will continue to positively impact the area's job market. Quisisem estimates that for every 1,000 LED lamps that are retrofit, the company creates one job.
